The project proposes retrofitting a historic water tower in Jiaxing, China with interactive cymatic elements, converting it into an urban instrument.
Water is released from a number of chutes on a randomized timer and impacts elements on its cascade downwards, creating a game of chance. The public speaks into sonic tubes aggregated in a public plaza, and voices are visualized as waves on the tank’s surface and mixed to generate vibration patterns that splash water from the tower’s surface.
